The meeting will start promptly at 7 pm, but we’ll open the building at 6 pm for setup and social hour.
Jodie will be sharing examples of her photography on the computer and in print. She will discuss the thought processes she uses while making photographs, as well as the ongoing, more prolonged processes and stages that happen during development (post-processing).
She will be sharing stories about several of her portfolios and what went into putting them together, and how they connect with each other and will discuss the advantages and disadvantages she has experienced in developing a series – what is gained and what may be lost in that process.
About Jodie Hulden
Jodie Hulden is a fine art, contemplative photographer whose photography focuses on the poetry of intimate spaces, both wild and man-made. Her work has been strongly influenced by Taoism, Chan and Zen Buddhism, ancient Chinese landscape paintings, classical Chinese poetry and Japanese Haiku.
She has a degree in art from San Diego State University focusing on textiles and fiber arts. She discovered her passion for black and white photography in the 1970’s, influenced by Ansel Adams, Minor White and Walker Evans. She has mentored with George DeWolfe, and studied with Carlan Tapp, Michael Frye, Brett Erickson and Susan Burnstine.
In 2017 she completed a month-long artist-in-residency at Zion National Park. She was an award winner in 2018 at the Center Choice Awards in Santa Fe, NM. In 2019 she was selected as one of the 200 Critical Mass Finalists for her Seeing Silence portfolio. Also, in 2019 she published a book with Andy Burgess of Dark Spring Press of her interior Bodie images titled Left Behind.
She has exhibited her work nationally at the Center for Photography Arts in Carmel, CA, the Center of Fine Art Photography in Fort Collins, CO, PhotoPlace Gallery in Vermont, the Yosemite Renaissance Exhibitions and the Photographer’s Eye Gallery in Escondido, CA. She has been featured in On Landscape Magazine, FotoRelevance, and Black and White Magazine (UK). Jodie lives in San Diego. Her work can be found on her website: www.jodiehulden.com.

Join us for our Monthly Critique Night!
Our December judge will be Susan Coppock.
On the third Wednesday of each month, members bring in prints for critique. Prints accepted by the Judge will hang for up to 2 months in the Photographic Arts Building gallery.

About Susan Coppock
I have been photographing for 40+ years and I am still thrilled every time I capture something special in nature. I live, breathe, work, dream, judge, and teach photography (until I retired this past June). I am lucky to have taught photography in high school for more than 20 years. Although I loved teaching kids, I now have more time to pursue my passion for night photography, storm chasing, and the ocean. My work has won numerous awards including Best of Show and has been shown in magazines, museums, galleries, and personal collections.
I am first and foremost a storm chaser and nature photographer. I go storm chasing every summer during monsoon season in Arizona and New Mexico. Being able to get photographs of nature’s most spectacular shows, where no image is like another, is my greatest joy.
Most of my work is night photography of the Milky Way, star trails, moon shots, and thunderstorms, including cloud formations and lightning. When I was teaching my drive took me along the coast where I could stop and photograph the always-changing beauty of the ocean. I try to share with others the awe and spirit I feel when surrounded by the power of nature, her fury, and the incredible beauty in the storms and oceans she produces, where each image is unique and special. Sharing my work with others who may not be as fortunate to witness these natural phenomena makes me especially happy.
Our fourth quarter theme for 2021 is GAMES
Members can submit up to two (2) monochrome and two (2) color photographs, no later than 8pm (PT) on the competition date. Submission instructions will be sent to members via email.
All submissions will be posted online within 3 days after entries close for members to vote. Winners will be announced at the second meeting of the following month.
Scoring
Members shall earn one (1) point for each print entered into the competition. Additional points shall be awarded to each division winning image as follows:
Three (3) points for each First Place winning image.
Two (2) points for each Second Place winning image.
One (1) point for each Third Place winning image.
Awards
At the end of each year, the member(s) with the highest number of points in the Monochrome division shall be awarded the Harris Wallace Perpetual Trophy. The member(s) with the highest number of points in the Color division shall be awarded the Pitt Warner Perpetual Trophy.
