The meeting will start promptly at 7 pm, but we’ll open the building at 6 pm for setup and social hour.

Join us for our Monthly Critique Night!

Our Judge this month is Light Chasers founder, Amethel Parel-Sewell.

On the third Wednesday of each month, members bring in prints for critique. Prints accepted by the Judge will hang for up to 2 months in the Photographic Arts Building gallery.

About Amethel Parel-Sewell

Amethel Parel-Sewell has over 30 years of multidisciplinary experience as an editor-in-chief, creative director, photography editor, photographer, multimedia producer, graphic designer, and educator. She’s a Program Coordinator for the International Exhibition of Photography at the San Diego County Fair, where she has also served as a judge and a speaker before joining as a coordinator.

She has a Bachelor of Arts in Photojournalism and currently serves as the Editor-in-Chief/Creative Director of Brilliant Star, an award-winning international publication encouraging world citizenship, social justice, and using the Arts to make the world a better place. She’s the founder of Light Chasers, a vibrant photography community based in San Diego, where she and a leadership team host competitions, group exhibits, workshops, meet-ups, and other opportunities for learning and community-building. Amethel also works as a photography mentor when she’s not chasing the moon, the stars, the sun, and other beautiful light.

About Craig Carlson

Craig Carlson became fascinated with photography in his early teens and worked on student publications from high school through his university studies. Craig received his Bachelors of Arts in Editorial Journalism in 1973 from San Diego State University and his Masters of Arts in Studio Arts with an emphasis in “Photography” from Humboldt State University in 1976. 

Craig has worked as a photographer since his high school days. He started his professional career shooting for magazines, newspapers, and eventually for corporate and advertising clients. 

He has taught photography for 45 years in several colleges throughout San Diego County and he has been a lecturer in Photography at the School of Art+Design at San Diego State University for the last twenty-six years. 

Craig has exhibited his photographs since 1970 and is included in corporate and private collections. His Photography was included in the book, ”Both Sides of Sunset: Photographing Los Angeles,” by Metropolis Books.
