Join us as Lightroom Classic Expert, Paul Shilling, guides us through the Develop module in Adobe Lightroom Classic. Paul will demonstrate how the many buttons, dials, and sliders in the Develop module can be used to bring your raw images to life. He will also review some tips and tricks that even advanced Lightroom Classic users may not be familiar with. Since the editing tools in the Develop module are almost identical to those in Adobe Camera Raw, this presentation should also be of interest to Photoshop users.
Paul retired from the UCSD Department of Psychiatry after a productive 30-year career investigating the brain mechanisms underlying schizophrenia and the antipsychotic drugs used to treat this severe brain disease.
Paul’s passion for photography began when he was a graduate student. He loves to capture nature stories with his camera and is especially passionate about creating artistic images of birds, as well as a variety of macro subjects. Creating macro images of subjects such as insects and flowers has allowed him to share interesting details and patterns in nature that usually go unnoticed.
Paul has exhibited his award-winning photography in numerous local shows and competitions. He most recently was awarded first place in the San Diego Floral Association/Museum of Photographic Arts contest “The Power of the Single Flower” and his winning image is displayed on the cover of the July/August 2023 edition of California Garden. His images have also been published in the book, San Diego’s North County Coast: A Photographic Portrait, and Nature’s Best magazine.
Paul has developed expertise in image post processing using a combination of Lightroom Classic, Photoshop, and Topaz filters. He currently trains photographers how to better organize, manage and edit their images in Lightroom Classic. Paul lives in Encinitas, California with his wife Lesley, a retired special education teacher, who is now a jewelry maker and painter.

About Duane
Duane started Great American Portraits to change people’s lives by creating custom photography based on the unique experiences of each person’s life.
I want to help make people’s lives better by allowing them to see themselves and what respect, love, comfort, and more all look like in their own lives by creating fun, loving custom portraits that take them to a special emotional time in their lives.
When not photographing people, I help photographers become better at the business and the art of photography to make their own lives better! There is so much to the art and science of photography we all learn best by learning hands-on from those who have already traveled this road before us. I love to share this journey with you!
