An individual paper type from different manufacturers can vary. This workshop, presented by Jean Eichenlaub, will explore several of the various available papers and how each type influences the appearance of an image.

Darkroomers members may submit up to 2 image files to be printed on four different types of 8.5” x 11” paper (smooth, textured, metallic, and rice). A $10 suggested donation to defray material costs will be requested for printing. Submission instructions have been sent to members via email and Slack.

About Jean

Photography has always been an interest; however, between the cost of film and its development, and constant moving as a military dependent, I did not have the wherewithal to progress. Eventually, I sold my equipment and pursued other hobbies. Meanwhile, a career as a research oceanographer and instructor kept me busy. The advent of digital photography rekindled my interest. A call from my mother reporting an introduction to a digital photography course she had just taken got me started.

My research interests involved water and sediment interactions, and the small organisms living in sediment. Those interests carry over to my photography. Small (macro) subjects intrigue me and water is always important. With retirement, photography became a serious activity.

In addition to following my research interests, photography subjects have expanded to include many terrestrial animals.

Over the years, my images have received numerous awards: Cabrillo National Monument membership cards featured my photo one year, and a landscape photo won the Mission Trails Regional Park competition. Various photographs received Honorable Mentions at the San Diego Fair during past years. In 2017 a macro smoke photograph won first in class at the fair and an image of water spilling from a wine glass won Best Picture of the Year at the Professional Photographers of San Diego Chapter.
