Photojournalism – Our World In Focus with Don Bartletti @ Photographic Arts Building
Nov 6 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

From the crowded streets of California to the continent-spanning routes of human migration, Don uses the camera to preserve story-telling moments that often pass in the blink of an eye.  All of us who appreciate the medium know that there is no better evidence of a fleeting moment than the still photograph. Some can make us smile; some make us weep. Over his 52-year career on the road as a newspaper photojournalist, he occasionally found himself focusing on things that made him wonder, “How can such things be?”.  He’s happy to share some of those photos and stories that might make you feel the same.

Toning it down” will share techniques used to manage the extremes of shadow and highlight details, ensuring a balanced image with preserved details. This process typically involves using adjustment layers like Curves or Levels, and contrast masking techniques to reduce the intensity of bright highlights and deep shadows. By carefully moderating these areas, the image achieves a more nuanced contrast, maintaining texture and detail across the tonal range, which results in a more visually pleasing and natural-looking photograph.
