All About Entering the Photography Exhibition at the San Diego County Fair @ Photographic Arts Building
Mar 6 @ 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Join us for our First Wednesday Monthly Meeting.  Our March 2024r topic will be All About Entering the Photography Exhibition at the San Diego County Fair with Lois Fong-Sakai.

Let’s Go Retro at the 2024 San Diego County Fair

With a nod to nostalgia and a focus on fun, the 2024 Fair will give our yesteryears another moment in the San Diego sun. Bop your way around the happy days of the ‘50s. Twist, shout, and shake it into the bewitching ‘60s. Move and groove through the disco nights of the ‘70s. Moonwalk it back to the gnarly age of big hair, shoulder pads, and parachute pants of the ‘80s. And enjoy the era of flannel and floppy drives of the ‘90s – or whatever, nevermind. When we look back on today, what will stand the test of time to be considered “retro” to future San Diegans?

The 2024 season runs from June 12 – July 7.

The San Diego County Fair began in 1880. One of the treasured traditions and key components that continues to set the fair apart from other events and amusement venues is its participatory element. The community is the star of the show, and the public is encouraged to take part in the Fair by performing center stage as a community entertainer or submitting arts and hobbies through the fair’s competitive exhibition program. Entry materials and applications for public participation programs will be available starting in January, and admission and ticketed concerts and festivals are expected to go on sale in March.

Join your fellow Darkroomers as we explore one of San Diego’s most colorful neighborhoods, Barrio Logan. We’ll meet up for coffee, explore for a few hours, then regroup at a brewery. This neighborhood is great for street photography, murals, and architecture, so come ready to walk. Bring as much gear as you’re willing to carry, but we recommend traveling light – one camera, one lens.
