Our 5th Wednesday meetings are member spotlight presentations. Hob-knob with some of the area’s experts in amateur photography and enjoy delicious Hors d’oeuvres!
Join us for Iceland: 2 weeks, 2300 miles, and 3400 images presented by Michael and Mary Peddecord.
The Land of Fire and Ice is rightly on many photographers’ bucket lists. In June 2022, we embarked on a two-week trip that would cover 2290 miles, including the 830-mile Ring Road. Side trips off the Ring Road took us to Gullfoss and Geysir Hot Springs, the Westfjords, Vatnsnes Peninsula, and Lake Myvatn. The ever-changing landscapes and weather conditions provided endless photographic opportunities.
The trip was planned using travel and photography books as well as the internet – especially Google Maps. All lodgings were booked online, including B&Bs, farms, apartments, and small hotels. Driving ourselves allowed us to stop at the unexpected – be it a motorcycle museum, shark museum, or simply the sun breaking through the clouds. Now that we have compiled our lists of dos and don’ts that might be useful for future travels, our one burning question – should we go back in the winter for the Northern Lights?
Following a short presentation, we invite others who have visited Iceland to share their experiences.

DUE TO THE INCLEMENT WEATHER, WE ARE CANCELLING THIS MEETING AND LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU ON SATURDAY FOR OUR WEEKEND WORKSHOP.
Join us for our First Wednesday Monthly Meeting. First Wednesday Meetings are lectures, talks, discussions, or presentations.
This meeting will be held in person at the Photographic Arts Building in Balboa Park (next to Spanish Village).

One of the things that makes Darkroomers unique is that we print our photos and submit them for critique and exhibition each month. Matting and mounting prints, especially if you plan to cut your mats, can be its own art form, and takes practice to master. To help members with this process, we hold an annual matting and mounting workshop where members can bring in their mat cutters and show some of the available tools. We’ll walk you through cutting a custom mat and how to mount your print using archival tools processes.
Bring:
- A mat cutter (if you have one) – if you don’t own one, you can see what other members are using and have a chance to try one before you invest in your own.
- Uncut mat board (16×24 recommended)
- A printed photograph
- Adhesives or other tools you use for matting and mounting
We ask that both new and longer-term members plan to attend. This is a great way for those who have been involved for a while to share their knowledge with our newer members.
NOTE: Weekend workshops are members’ only events. Not a member? Click here for more info and to join Darkroomers!
