About Ron

Ron Ham worked at the Exhibition of Photography at the San Diego County Fair for seven years, three as coordinator of the exhibit, one of the largest in the western United States, and two as assistant coordinator. But his interest in photography began in college, when he took two black-and-white photo classes as a journalism student at Cal Poly Pomona.

He worked 31 years in print media, first as reporter and photographer at weekly papers, then as page designer and editor at local weeklies and dailies, and finally as a city editor at the San Diego Union and the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Since he retired he has enjoyed hiking local parks, lagoons and beaches looking for images of wildlife and water sports, walking urban areas seeking street and architecture shots, and travelling in search of more exotic photos.

Ron has been a member of the PhotoArts Group since shortly after its inception and before it helped establish the Escondido Arts Partnership gallery, well more than a decade ago. His photos have hung in venues throughout the San Diego region, including Escondido Municipal Gallery, Encinitas City Hall, San Marcos and Encinitas community centers, Spanish Village and the Best of Nature show in Balboa Park, Vista Wellness Center, and Mission Trails Regional Park. They have also been published in the Travel section of the Union-Tribune and displayed digitally in MOPA’s gift shop.

Ron still judges photos for the San Diego County Fair, including this year, and sometimes for local photo clubs.

He lives in Leucadia with Edie, his wife of nearly 40 years, and they have two grown kids.
